Getting to know... Name: Ashi Age: 22 Timezone: EST Availability: I'm usually online from mid-afternoons to about 1 a.m. My job has been eating away at my weekends, so I'm not on as much then, but I'm working on being more active otherwise. RP Expectiations: I haven't been feeling inspired or brave enough to take on PSLs recently. Intimate, one-on-one RPing setups put a lot of pressure on me to perform, and I guess I don't do well with performance anxiety. On that note, I'm not one to really personally get to know the people I'm playing with because I am your stereotypical socially awkward RPer. However, I am more than willing to talk shop if you want to plot something between our characters.
Regardless of my availability and activity, I'm always looking out for a game I might like to join at a later time. Experience: I started roleplaying in original character messageboard threads in 2003, focusing mainly on the Digimon, Pokemon, and Inheritance Cycle fandoms/universes. I've been involved in journal-based games for a little over two years, and I've grown quickly attached to and now prefer that format. Mainly, I stick to series-specific or multifandom games, but I dabble in original character games every once in a while if I like the game's premise.
Notes: 01) This account mainly summarizes my journal-based RPing. The old message board thread RPGs I took part of are more likely deleted and nowhere to be found anymore, which would make summarizing those games difficult. For curiosity's sake I may add a section dedicated to those long-lost characters since I still love them. 02) I usually write in third person storybook style, past tense. I tend to write a paragraph or so per response, but I'm not picky about you matching my approximate word count as long as it has enough substance for me to write a proper tag. The exception to this rule is that when I join community games, I go by whatever style it is written. An example would be that many games on LiveJournal have their responses written with the character's words written in normal text and his/her actions set off in asterisks, brackets, smaller text, italics, or a combination of any of the four:
No...
[A look of anger and denial cross her face.] You're lying to me! That can't be true. All that money and killing can't be for nothing!
03) I'll participate in fandom and original/PB RPGs. I don't do celeb at all because I'm not familiar with celebrities and their highly publicized lives, and playing a real living person is more than slightly creepy to me. Most of my fandoms are anime/manga. It's just what I've mainly been into. When it comes to fandom RP, I tend to play characters from obscure or otherwise lesser-known canons. It's both a matter of personal comfort and showing these series some love. 04) Unfortunately, I'm a slow tagger. It takes me quite a bit of time to formulate a thought into a proper tag, especially if I'm trying to match the length and quality of your responses. I understand this can be a turn-off for some RPers, so I figured better they know this ahead of time. 05) I tend to gravitate towards female characters, probably because I am female and feel more confident portraying them. However, I don't have qualms against playing male characters. Many of my personal favorite played characters are actually males. I also tend to make my original characters Asian-American, partly because I am myself but mainly because some games could use more ethnic diversity. 06) I become very attached to my characters, especially original ones. If I feel like a certain character wasn't utilized to their full potential, I will use them in other games. I tweak the character to better fit the new game, but the muse is essentially the same. 07) I don't RP romantic relationships often and I don't have much experience playing them either. However, I'm not opposed to them completely. I'm open to slash and het, in that order. I'd prefer not to fade to black, but be warned. I only recently started RPing smut, so please be patient with me if I'm doing it wrong. 08) Recently I've preferred threads and GoogleDocs over instant messenger logging. However, which route I decide to play depends on each game situation. You can send me a document to the same e-mail listed in my contact info. 09) I prefer to play for communities, but I'm gradually getting into PSLs. If I find one advertised that interests me, I might try it out, but generally PSLs put more pressure on me than community games and intimidates an internet shy me. I tend to go into community games on my own and finesse storylines and character relationships as the game goes on. If you have a pre-planned storyline, the line is something I think I can fill, and the game interests me, I wouldn't be opposed to joining it along with you. Right now, I prefer short-term PSLs simply because it's still new territory for me. Again though, if I like a long-term line enough I wouldn't mind giving it a shot.
